Nine Patch heart-it moose be love blog hop

it moose be loved

Thank you Joan for the opportunity to participate in the “It Moose Be Love” blog hop. You can find Joan sewing and sharing at MooseStash Quilting. With a name like It Moose Be Love how could I resist? Today I’m sharing my nine patch quilt with embroidered hearts.

fabric & cutting the nine patch blocks

Last year I purchased an embroidery machine from a friend of my sister’s and I have made a few small projects with it, I’m still learning tho. Since the word LOVE is in the hop title and it is February my project had to have hearts. I’ve been saving this Grenadine fabric from Island Batik and paired it with their white solid.

For cutting the fabric I used the 2 1/2″ strip and 6 1/2″ square die from AccuQuilt. For the nine patch blocks I sewed strips sets then, sub-cut them into 2 1/2″ strips to build the 6 1/2″ 9 patch blocks.

Embroidery

I found this free embroidered heart from Hatch Embroidery a while ago and loved it. I knew I would eventually use it for something, so I downloaded it. You’ll notice I did remove the wording and extra scrolls from the design.

The embroidered blocks were stitched while cutting and piecing the nine patch patch blocks, great use of time wouldn’t you say? And the best part, being able to use thread I already had.

It went together pretty quick after I decided how I would place the hearts within the quilt. For quilting I used Hobbs Tuscany 100% Wool Batting and stitched horizontal wiggly lines.

I finished the quilt Saturday but it snowed most of the day. We tried taking a photo but the grenadine looked more like a blob of black fabric, so we tried again Sunday. It was so cold and cuddling up in this piece with wool batting was nice and cozy.
