Economy Block Tutorial
The Economy Block is a traditional patchwork block that makes beautiful scrappy quilts or a single block made large enough for a baby quilt. They’re also great fill blocks or for quilt samplers.
Today I am sharing a pattern for a patchwork Economy Block as well as a template you can print for foundation paper piecing. The finished size of the block will be 6″.
Step 1
Following cutting directions in the free pattern download, cut the required number of patches. It’s helpful if you organize the patches in the block layout to match the block before you begin to sew.
Step 2
Using a 1/4″ seam join your first B Patch (small triangle) to one side of Patch C (square). On the opposite side of the patch you just sewed, add the second Patch B. Press seams. I like to press my seams open when making the Economy Block as it lessens some of the bulk. Because triangles can be a little finicky I strongly recommend you press down with your iron instead of sliding it side to side.
Repeat for the two remaining B Patches.
Step 3
Following the previous directions, join Patch A to the BC unit. Give it a final press.

Linky Parties
Do you have a quilting blog? If so, I would love for you to stop by every Thursday for Put your foot down. It is a weekly linky party to share your WIP’s and UFO’s, it can be found on my Blog.
Thanks for the pattern! My economy blocks never turn out quite square, now they will!
Mine never do either unless I fpp them. Thank you for stopping by.
