Garden Song Sew Along – Section 2
Welcome back to the Garden Song Sew Along! It’s time for Section 2, where another part of your garden comes together with a sweet little bird, flowers, and a neutral pieced block.
I love how this section begins to bring the personality of the Garden Song quilt to life. The soft background lets the appliqué and pieced elements stand out while still keeping the overall design soft and airy.
Section 2
For this section, you’ll find the pattern pieces and instructions you need to continue building your Garden Song quilt.
The bird and floral appliqué give this section a little garden charm, while the pieced block adds another layer of interest to the quilt.
As with the first section, you can choose your layout and how much detail you want to add with your fabrics and appliqué. This is your Garden Song, so have fun making it your own!
Alternate layouts
The image above shows just one possible layout for this section. You can choose to piece each of the blocks, or you can simplify the design by using a single piece of fabric for each block. Make it your own!
The only requirement is that your completed section measures 12½” tall × 18½” wide, including seam allowance. If you choose the layout shown above, you will first need to join the sections together and then add the sun and clouds to complete this part of the quilt.
The layout below shows an even simpler option. You can still piece each section if you like, or, for the easiest approach, cut one piece of fabric 12½” × 18½” and appliqué your shapes directly onto it.
Finished section
This is how I chose to join my section. Heavy quilting and joining the finished blocks with sashing strips. Are you going to add a gate to the negative area on Section 2?
