Timeless Traditions Blog Hop with Island Batik

Welcome to week 1 of the Timeless Traditions Blog Hop featuring Island Batik by Lumin Fabric Summer 2025 Collections. The collection I am featuring today is Cherry Blossom and I was able to use a piece of all 20 fabrics somewhere in my quilt.

Cherry Blossom is so soft and pretty with the added blues and browns. Ask for it in your local quilt shops now.

Ambassador Challenge

The challenge for the Ambassadors this month was to make a quilt using any combination of 5 of the following blocks.

Nine Patch Quilt Block

Variable Star Quilt Block

Nine Patch Chain Quilt Block

Pinwheel Mosaic Quilt Block

Products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge. As an Island Batik Ambassador I receive two shipments a year filled with beautiful Island Batik fabric. Included in these shipments are products from industry partners Hobbs BattingSchmetz NeedlesDeb Tucker Studio 180 DesignsAurifil ThreadOliso IronsFunky Friends FactoryByAnnie, and AccuQuilt.

To complete my blocks I used dies from AccuQuilts 6″ and 12″ Qubes. For cutting hst’s and qst’s the only way to cut and piece them as accurately as the dies would be to paper piece them, the dies are much quicker.

I know every time we have a blog hop I tell you, “this is my favorite” batting. And then, I am reminded every time I use the Hobbs Tuscany Collection 100% Cotton that this is the ultimate batting. I love it so much and if I could choose any batting to use in every project I make it would be this batting. It’s thicker than most cotton batting and it’s softer than a baby’s skin.

A super hot iron, cotton thread and good needles are needed for a perfect finish. The Oliso Smart Iron is super hot and it auto lifts when you remove you hand and it is my go to for all my pressing needs. Schmetz Piecing and Quilting Needles are nice and shape and penetrate the tight weave of batiks very well, their Microtex (included in this combo pack) and amazing!

For all my piecing and quilting needes I use Aurifil thread, white or any neutral color is my favorite. For quilting I use Aurifil Cotton Forty3 – Aurifil

I do have some Cherry Blossom left and am excited to find a project I can use it in. Visit other Island Batik Ambassadors to see their finishes, the entire schedule can be found on the Lumin Fabric Blog.
