Happy halloween-Something wicked blog hop

blog hop

Welcome to my stop on the “Something Wicked” blog hop hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt. First I want to thank Carol for all of the fun blog hops she has hosted through the years and he presence will be sadly missed. Good luck on your new adventure Carol.

So, I have been learning to digitize and found a witch cross stitch pattern that I digitized for embroidery. I’ve played with it for hours outlining, adding detail, changing colors and so on.

Because I did not think I would be satisfied with the witches I started to digitize these clip art designs. For quilting the blocks I used a purchased design, you’ll see the quilting better in a few.

Turns out, 45,000 plus stitches later I do like the witches and will eventually make something with them.

The spider block is my favorite even though I fear spiders, the house is pretty cool too. The windows are embroidered and look pretty good in the light and dark.

There is also a bat, a witches hat, a Happy Halloween sign, a witches skirt and boots. I love the cauldron with the legs sticking out.

All of the blocks except for the spider webs, trees and spiders were going to be in the hoop applique. I thought this would be great to finish after oral surgery. I hadn’t planned on horrible swelling, and infection though which means my project is on hold for now.

The trees are pretty cool! A few years ago I purchased an Island Batik fat quarter bundle with all of these black fabrics. It wasn’t until this blog hop I was sure what I would use them for. The orange and yellow fabrics are also Island Batik, Opulent Orange fq bundle, for a splash f color.

Loki doesn’t care though, he approves. After charging up the glow in the dark thread I went to turn off the light when Loki decided he wanted in the picture too.

I admit, it would have looked better had I continued with the applique but I was trying to get it all finished even after infection set in. Then I quit. I think I will remake the blocks with the applique instead of just the stitching.

  1. I have never done any digitizing and I don’t have an embroidery machine anyhow, so it all looks very complicated to me. The designs are nice and look fun. I am sure you will be an expert in no time.

  2. Wow, wow, wow! That looks absolutely amazing with all that glow in the dark thread. I’m sorry to hear about your oral surgery issues. Hopefully you are on the mend and can enjoy a little Halloween candy.

  3. Very cool, Denise! I love the glow in the dark thread. Congrats on learning to digitize! It’s so much fun! I can get lost in it for hours on end. I hope you are starting to feel better now with the new abx. Take good care of yourself. Hugs!!

Well, that is so much fun! I am sorry you aren’t feeling well and hope you are feeling better soon. You are having great fun with the digitizing….I need to learn that, too. How are you doing learning it?

    1. On the mend, thank you. For digitizing, I am watching all the videos I can even those unrelated to the software. It is a slow process for sure because there’s alot to take in.

  5. Well, that’s no fun to have oral surgery AND get an infection from it. I hope it clears up quickly for you! I am totally wow’d with all those blocks, especially with the glow-in-the-dark thread. Amazing and so creepy cool! The pink witches look fantastic and I can’t wait to see what you create with them. Thank you for all your years of blog hopping with me. You totally inspire me, Denise! xo

    1. There was already an infection in the bone and that’s why the oral surgery. I dont think the antibiotic the surgeon gave me was strong enough to fight anything considering I’ve lived on them for a couple of years, the new is working great. Thank you for all you have one creating the hops, I will miss them but I will still follow you.

  6. What a wonderful collection of embroidered quilting. Your talents are amazing. I really love the witches and the glow in the dark green. Thanks so much for sharing. I hope your feeling better.

  7. Great designing. I really love the designs that are brighter colors and those that are applique. Fantastic picture of the blocks with the glow-in-the-dark thread!
