Fluir began as my March Island Batik project, then became it’s own when I came down with an upper respiratory infection. The focus fabric is from an IB collection that was released a couple of years ago. I loved it so much that I had to purchase a bolt.

Isn’t is gorgeous? The little hearts, squares and flying geese are perfect for this multi colored fabric. The Oliso mini iron is so light and helpful when you have a lot of pressing to do.

The blocks
To create the 11 x 11 checkerboard blocks I made a lot of 9 patch blocks, and a few 4 patch. I know what you’re thinking, and I didn’t sew each block together. Strip piecing was much easier and so quick when there’s this many small blocks to make. You also get nice points from using the strip piecing method.

When I added the border strip to the checkerboard blocks I thought I’d pressed well. You can see the block on the right is a little taller. My math was correct and I dreaded ripping all the seams or worse, starting again.
After measuring everything I realized the checkerboard was a little like an accordion while the seams in the right block were flat. Spray starch (not sizing) fixed the problem.

The almost finished Fluir. Quilting will have to wait until I finish with the IBA April project, Drunkards Path. Fluir is the largest quilt I have made in a while finishing at 94″ square.

Drunkards Path for April
After finishing Fluir over the weekend I started working on DP blocks. The fabric I chose is an Earthy Enchantment 10″ stack. Here is what I have so far.

That is such a stunning quilt!!! Love the sneak peek already for your drunkards path quilts!
Thank you Brittany.
Love your “Fluir”! What a unique pattern, and a perfect vehicle for that gorgeous fabric! So sorry you weren’t feeling well, hope you feel better soon.
Thank you so much
Fluir is beautiful! I’ve never sewn a Drunkard’s Path, I’m afraid of those curves. Happy stitching!
I really dislike curves, starch was definitely the key for this one.
It’s beautiful, Denise! I love how you only used two fabrics. It really showcases the versatility of a multi color print. Excited to see your Drunkard’s Path project next month. Happy sewing!
Thank you.
This is beautiful, Denise!! Love it! I can see why you purchased an entire bolt of that focus fabric. Gorgeous!
Thanks Brenda. I’m not sure what I’ll do with the rest of it.
I want to purchase a whole bolt of Mocha that I used in my quilt for this month! Where did you find it by the bolt?
I purchased through Maryellen.
Love your new quilt! Sorry you came down with such a nasty bug…hopefully you are feeling better now.
Thank you Kathleen
Wow, what an interesting quilt and only 2 fabrics used.
Thank you, I love it.
