Floral Fusion is an applique floral pattern with new blocks being release every Monday. For more information and where to find the downloads visit the Floral Fusion SAL Page.

Floral Fusion Sew Along is in it’s second week and today I have 2 new blocks for you, block 1 and 9. I hope you like them. And I have finally decided on a border and I’m am currently working on it now.

The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge. As an Island Batik Ambassador I receive two shipments a year filled with beautiful Island Batik fabric. Included in these shipments are products from industry partners Hobbs Batting, Schmetz Needles, Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs, Aurifil Thread and new this year, Oliso Irons. Block 1

As you have likely guessed, the blocks will not be released in any particular order.

Block 1 (Make 1) will make your fabric shine since it is an 8″ finished block. Will you applique over a 4 patch block as I did or use a solid background? Remember, always follow manufacturer’s direction for tracing and fusing shapes.

Cutting

Cut 1 (8 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) square. Or…

Cut 4 (4 1/2″ x 4 1/2″) squares to make 1 background block. Press seams well.

If you have followed the Cutting Directions sheet, disregard cutting additional background fabric.

Block 9

Block 9 (Make 4) gives you a couple of options. The extra design on the flower can be stitched without the patches, the shapes cut out using a contrasting fabric, or eliminated. Remember, feel free to make it your own.

For my block I chose to stitch those 3 little petals instead of adding the applique shapes.

When fusing the shapes down, I’ve chosen to fuse only the edges of each shape. This looks more natural and less flat and I think it will quilt out with more fluff.

Cutting

Cut 4 (4 1/2″ x 8 1/2″) rectangles. Or…

Cut 8 (4 1/2″x 4 1/2″) squares to make 4 background blocks. Press seams well.

If you have followed the Cutting Directions sheet, disregard cutting additional background fabric.
