Flower Pot blog hop-Flowers & Butterflies
Giveaway winners
Jan B. and Melissa S., winners have been notified by email with pattern attached. Congrats ladies!
Welcome to my stop in the Flower Pot Blog Hop hosted by Jennifer at Inquiring Quilter. Flower Pot is one of the new collection from Island Batik, designed by Kathy Engle for Jennifer. Ask for it in shops now, use the IB Store Locator, or use the Fabric Finder to search by collection.
As usual I had a plan that changed when the fabric arrived. I asked Jennifer to select a couple fabrics and send me 10″ squares to make a flower pot with large applique flowers.
But as I said, when the fabrics arrived that all changed. I separated the pinks and yellow/gold/peach fabric and decided on the this design instead. To fuse the flowers I used Wonder Under and stitched them down with Aurifil 40wt thread in a light and dark pink. The buttonhole stitch was a nice finish for my Floral Fusion quilt so that is what I chose to finish the edges on this mini.
My flowers are fused to 6″ x 10″ rectangles of Rice, it is from the Island Batik Foundations line and available throughout the year. Look at the rich shades of pink from Flower Pot, aren’t they pretty?
I had a scrap piece of Hobbs Heirloom Natural Cotton Batting large enough to quilt this piece, I love cotton batting.
Yes, I have to draw on the top for quilting (lol). I think the feathers added a nice touch between the flowers, with just an outline stitch around the flowers.
All flower gardens need butterflies and I added one to each vertical row. This would be a beautiful bed quilt and when time allows I think I will make one. But for today’s finish, I made as many blocks as I could for the amount of fabric I had. Two blocks were left out of the quilt because I couldn’t make the layout work, maybe I’ll finish them as mug rugs.

I don’t know what your original design might have looked like, but this is simply gorgeous! I love, love, love it! It really brings out the beauty of the fabrics in my Flower Pot collection. Thanks for participating in my blog hop!
It does, and I wish the photos reflected the true colors. Thank you for inviting me to join.
This quilt is beautiful! The fabrics were perfect. Happy stitching!
Thank you so much. I love the vintage look of it.
This is gorgeous, Denise! I love this collection. You did a great job on your feathers. I, too, have to draw a line! I don’t practice free motion enough to do a good job on them, but really need to practice more. I’m taking a Graffiti Quilting class with Karlee Porter so I’m definitely drawing a lot of different shapes I haven’t used before. Now to get them quilted! Great job on your quilt and quilting!
Graffiti quilting sounds fun. My machine is bare bones so I don’t have a choice to do anything beside free motion. My biggest problem is coming up with designs, I should try pantos.
I love this beauty. I was thinking flowers but never actually played with them. I especially love the addition of the butterfly to each row; it really changes up the look from just flower.
Thank you Kathleen.
Thank you so much for sharing your gorgeous quilt on my weekly show and tell, Wednesday Wait Loss. I simply love it!
