Give it a whirl with woodstock
Today is my day to share in the Give It A Whirl block hop hosted by Carol from Just Let Me Quilt. Carol hosts some of the best blog hops every year including my favorite, Virtual Cookie Exchange. Thank you Carol for all you do and another great hop.
It is also my reveal for the Island Batik Ambassador March challenge, It’s All Up To you. The fabric I received is Woodstock by Kathy Engle for Canton Village Quilt Works. Woodstock is so bright and cheerful with really cool designs. This is the fabric I was sent for last months Island Batik Log Cabin blog hop and with this quilt finish I pretty much finished off the half yard bundle. You can read more about Butterfly Garden, last months finish using Woodstock here.
Butterfly Garden
Supplies
Some products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge. As an AccuQuilt GoGetter, and Island Batik Ambassador I receive two shipments a year filled with beautiful Island Batik fabric. Included in these shipments are products from industry partners Hobbs Batting, Schmetz Needles, Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs, Aurifil Thread and new this year, Oliso Irons.
For this quilt I used the AccuQuilt 3 1/2″ strip die to cut all of my strips of Woodstock and Muslin.
AccuQuilt 12″ Mix and Match Qube. From this qube I used the 6″ finished hst triangle die to make my pinwheels.
AccuQuilt 2 1/2″ Strip Die for cutting binding strips.
Hobbs Batting Heirloom® Premium Cotton
Aurifil 50wt for piecing and Forty3 for quilting.
After cutting the strips I alternated the colors and place a Muslin strip between each one Then I sewed 4 strips together. After, the strips sets were cut into 3 1/2 strips and sewn together to form 34 of the below blocks. There is also 8 pinwheel blocks for a 6 x 7 layout.
Of course I have to include Loki. He has his own seat on my work table but he loves to be in the middle of all the action and claimed this spot while I was attaching binding. He wasn’t happy when I moved him to advance the quilt.
The border was also cut using the 3 1/2″ strip die. I love the strip dies because somehow the strips always come out straight, no mountains. The binding has a strip cut from the red fabrics with green detail, see top photo. The quilt finishes at 78″ x 90″ which is too large to hold by hand. Since the logs are coming off our home I decided a couple nails to hang the quilt wouldn’t hurt a thing.

I love a scrappy quilt and your checkboard quilt is calling my name. Beautiful fabrics and design.
Did you answer, lol?
Thank you Joan.
Both quilts are awesome! I love the batiks! The pinwheels in amongst the patchwork looks amazing. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you Carol
The fabrics, Woodstock, are really a great combo for both those quilts. I love the pinwheels in the corners like that and how they accent all the blocks in the middle. Lovely! Your Butterfly Garden is gorgeous, too! Thanks for sharing your pretties, Denise.
Thank you so much Carol
Beautiful quilt, thanks so much for sharing!
Thank you Karrin
Your checkerboard pinwheel quilt is great, Denise. And, you know I LOVE your log cabin quilt! Adorable. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you twice Brenda.
Beautiful quilt!!! I love how you combined the Whirl and March challenges! Clever you!
PS: I’m going to Lori’s Country Cottage in June … hopefully they will have some Woodstock left! 🙂
It is such a fun and pretty collection. And perfect for a primary colored baby quilt for either sex. You will love it.
Beautiful and very colorful quilt, love it.
Thank you! The colors are so rich and bright in this collection.
Perfectly wonderful. The red is lovely; I love it.
Thank you
great use of the pinwheel blocks in this quilt. The colors are wonderful and Loki is just such a gorgeous addition.
Thank you, yes he is a sweety too.
Beautiful quilt! The colors and fabric are fantastic. I love the simplicity of the quilt with the added pinwheels in the corners.
Thank you Julia
Your quilt is wonderful! I’ve had to modify my finish method now that I have Freya, who loves to eat binding clips. (Grrr!) Loki looks like a good boy.
lol, Freya will catch on. Loki wants to be involved in everything whether its pressing fabric (he plops down on it) binding-well you see, quilting on the long arm-he lays on the batting. Thank you for stopping by.
This turned out fantastic!
Thank you Leah
Oh wow! That looks stunning!! Ah, you have a Loki too!! He’s a cutie and a big help in the sewing room I am sure 🙂 xx
Oh yes Loki, turns out he represents the name to a T. Thank you!
That is a beautiful quilt! I wasn’t up to making a lot of triangles for my day and you came up with a fabulous idea of adding them to the corners. Good for you for combining the two challenges as well.
Thank you so much.
I love it, Denise! Of course, Loki has to have his own place on your work table! He looks adorable wrapped up in that quilt! Thanks for sharing! Great job on combining the two challenges!
Thank you Brenda!
A unique fuax border with the pinwheel corners on such a lovely, bright quilt.
Thank you
Your quilt is beautiful and then Loki makes everything better. He is a heart-stealer.
Thank you. Loki saved me after I had to put my Enzo to sleep. Losing Enzo and my mom so close together was just about more than I could handle.
