2024 has been a productive year for me with 2 sew along’s, and several new pattern releases. Today, I am sharing my Island Batik finishes. Links to Industry Partners at the bottom of this post. For information on individual projects please click the provided link for each.
The products featured in this post were provided to me free of charge. As an Island Batik Ambassador I receive two shipments a year filled with beautiful Island Batik fabric. Included in these shipments are products from industry partners Hobbs Batting, Schmetz Needles, Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs, Aurifil Thread and new this year, Oliso Irons, Funky Friends Factory, and By Annie.
February
In February I revealed Butterfly Garden. Everything except the butterflies are log cabin blocks. At the time I thought this was my favorite quilt of all time. Pattern available in my shop.

Finish for the It Moose Be Love blog hop. Machine Embroidery hears and a 9 patch block for a finish.

March
Then came March…I love the colorful 2″ blocks and the interest the 8″pinwheels add to the quilt. It’s hard to believe that such a simple design could be a favorite over Butterfly Garden.

April
Funky Friends Factory is an Island Batik industry partner and generously provided the pattern for Crocodile Steve. My grandson loves Steve.

May
My finish for the Reflections Blog Hop, Satellite. Pattern available in my Shop.

No…this one if my favorite. The teal and greens against a solid black almost seems possible it will glow in the dark. Meet Saint Paddy, my first free sew along of 2024. Pattern available in my shop.

June
June was a blog hop month for Island Batik, featuring Deb Tucker Studio 180 Designs.

Tiptoe Through the Pines is a finish for the Prisms Blog Hop. Pattern available in my shop.

July
July made me smile, alot, with my T-shirt fishing quilt. Each T-shirt has it’s own cutesy fishing saying and some will just crack you up. I was able to use up many scraps for this finish. To see each T-shirt saying you will have to visit the post here.

August
In July I dug out a pattern I purchased, I don’t know, 20 years ago called Nirvana. Of course I modified the pattern a little by adding patchwork instead of a solid background.

The swan detail was added with FMQ, which is something I never do.

My finish for It’s a Jungle Blog Hop.

Also for the It’s a Jungle blog hop.

September
September provided much inspiration for me and I made another applique quilt. Floral Fusion was my second free sew along of 2024. Now this, this is my favorite quilt of the year. Pattern available in my Shop.

September brought yet another applique pattern for the year, Flowers & Butterflies. I love the vintage look of the flowers.

October
Finish for the Twilight Blog Hop.

ByAnnie is another sponsor of the IBA program. October was a blog hop month.

Something Wicked blog hop, I did not finish this one because I am not happy with the contrast in the fabric. Except in the dark.

November
November was more of a modern quilt month for me. With the center traditional Dresden, and the outer appliqued Dresden’s on a patchwork background, made me smile. Given that I had a little time on my hands I decided to quilt it with pebbles, all over. I love the texture in this finish.

December
The last Virtual Cookie Exchange blog hop finish. Block pattern available in my shop.

It took 12 months and all of this making to decide which finish was my favorite for the year. This one deserves some explanation…
During Thanksgiving dinner my 7yo great niece was really frustrated with her pants, yes her pants. She was bored since there were no other children to entertain her, and then the issue with her pants. Her mom, my niece, was clearly beginning to lose patience, digitizing software to the rescue.
Ella sat down at my desk and with little instruction she started drawing. Now keep in mind, digitizing is new to me and I struggle with changing thread colors, stitch types, etc. I told her what ever she drew we would stitch out on garment or something of her choosing. She caught on really fast.
Unfortunately, she had to leave before we could stitch it out. She told me before leaving she wanted the snail on a beach bag. Her grandma (my sister) doubted Ella knew what exactly a beach bag was.

This is the short version. The photo above was my first attempt, but I did not like how the hair (yes hair) stitched out. The hair is not shown in the photo. My second attempt, although modified several times while putting the bag together went more smooth. There was a lot of un-stitching, cutting of the bag, sewing, cutting more off the bag…

and sewing. Keep in mind I am not a bag maker and winged it as I went. I wasn’t totally happy with the bag and worried how she would see it. My fears turned into a sigh of relief on Christmas Eve when her face lit up. So, while the bag is nothing fancy, rather plain, this is my best finish for the year!

I know I’m biased, but Floral Fusion is MY favourite of your quilts & projects this year!! It’s absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you Gail, I am playing around with ideas for another SAL.
Wow what a year!!! You are talented in so many quilting outlets. The wicked blog hop is amazing. I can imagine that on a table then bursting with light when the power goes out during a spooky story!
Thank you. If you have an embroidery machine I will send you the files.
Wow! What a great year of quilting for you, Denise. It was fun to see all of your projects together. There were a couple I missed during the year. Here’s to another fabulous year! Happy sewing!
Thank you Jennifer
It’s fun to see them all in a row like this, Denise! Fabric Fusion is my fav. But the story about the snail is the best story!!!
I wish I hadn’t had to condense the story and I am so glad she was happy.
